Resveratrol Effects on Companion Animal Immune systems

Resveratrol,  a common compound in red wine, is usually heard in human medicine to aid the immune system but has been recently shown to have varying effects on our companion animals systems.

Treatments using the compound target varying cancers, cardiovascular disease, and stroke prevention in humans but in canine studies show such varying effects like increase in white blood production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and a decrease in anti-inflammatory cytokines. Couple that with a canine decrease in bacterial fighting white blood cell function and resveratrol may not be as a powerhouse for Fido in certain diseases.
