Alzheimer’s… studying worms to help humans?
Researchers are working with worms in the laboratory to try to develop drugs that could prevent Alzheimer’s disease. They have successfully identified a few drugs that show promise, and now, they’re trying to determine which drugs would work most efficiently at specific stages of the disease.
So… why worms? Well, researchers want to figure out exactly HOW the drug works in order to figure out if those same mechanisms would be relevant in humans. By working with worms, they can figure out exactly what these drugs do. Hopefully, this research will provide clues that could help develop a preventative treatment for Alzheimer’s.
