Paying Attention: Bats Offer Lessons
Researchers from John Hopkins University have made some interesting discoveries about how bats can filter important sounds from unimportant ones. This allows them to hunt more efficiently, and block out the overload of sensory information that our brains deal with daily. Because mammal brains share similarities, the information gained by studying bats could apply to humans. This research could help scientists to understand more about problems in humans with attention disorders, or those that suffer from sensory overload, like those with autism.
